Mediterranean Moods Concert, Nov.1stMeliset Abreu, GuitarMeliset Abreu performs extensively as a soloist and chamber musician. She is a founding member of Stretto, a trio of oboe, violin and classical guitar, and is a top prize-winner of competitions such as the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition and the Great Lakes International Competition.
Meliset is a graduate of Mannes College of Music, where she studied with Michael Newman. She also studied with Oscar Ghiglia at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy. In 1987, she participated in the Andrés Segovia masterclasses held at Manhattan School of Music, where Maestro Segovia invited her to play for him at the closing recital. The concerto, inspired by the gardens of Aranjuez, the summer palace of Spanish kings since the late 16th century, combines both folkloric and classical traditions in an attempt to convey to listeners the sights and sounds of the garden. Other selections will include Massenet’s Ballet Music from Le Cid, Rossini’s Overture to L’Italiana in Algeri, Faure’s Pavane, Op 50, and Saint-Saens’ Suite Algerienne. Back |
